Secretary of State for The Environment has received Orders to vary the National Park boundaries

24/01/2012

Great Britain’s Secretary of State for The Environment has received Orders to vary the boundaries of both The Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks.

This week the Orders to vary the boundaries of the Lake District and Dales National Parks passed to the Secretary of State and will almost certainly trigger a consultation period lasting until 16th March 2012.   The ultimate conclusion to the process will be a Public Inquiry during the course of this year.   As we have stated many times, the advantages of Park status are considerable, giving the area protection and an uplift to the economy.   Moreover, this opportunity is unlikely to ever be repeated.

It is important that we try to influence our Parish and District Councils.   They will be having meetings over the course of February so try to attend the meetings and lobby individual Councillors in order to influence their thinking on the matter.   The position both Parish and District Councils adopt is extremely important.

The best of luck, and please make sure your voice is heard.   If anyone on the Orton Fells Committee, or Lakes to Dales Business forum, can help you, please don’t hesitate to get in contact.   As individuals, a Committee Member will be contacting you soon in order to give you the means of making contact with the Secretary of State.

Regards,

Orton Fells Committee
